The day of events:
The microsite www.worldbloodcancerday.org was launched to establish May 28th as “World Blood Cancer Day.” WBCD is an independent international day of events that aims to raise awareness of the fight against blood cancer and give people worldwide an opportunity to demonstrate solidarity with blood cancer patients. It was inaugurated by DKMS in 2014 with the goal of encouraging people all over the world to get involved and make their mark on behalf of patients. Every year on the 28th of May, stem cell donor centers and registries, transplantation centers, group initiatives and other helpers all over the world should join together to take action to draw the world’s attention to the theme of blood cancer, in order to recruit even more supporters to help fight this disease.
The red “&” sign, or ampersand, is the symbol of World Blood Cancer Day. It means that you & me together can defeat blood cancer. On May 28th, the “&” sign should be on display everywhere, connecting people in their commitment to the cause and their solidarity with patients. The universal call to action is: Make your mark! It is designed to encourage people to actively move the subject of blood cancer into the public spotlight.
You can publicize an event you are planning for WORLD BLOOD CANCER DAY on the website www.worldbloodcancerday.org, or upload a photo to the gallery.
Here you can really give your creativity free rein. Show your solidarity with blood cancer patients all over the world by organizing your own event for WBCD. Are you planning a bake sale to raise money for the fight against blood cancer? A flash mob to draw attention in your city to this life-threatening disease? Or even your own registration campaign? We are thrilled at any and every gesture, no matter how big or small! Become part of an international community and help us and patients across the globe to make the fight against blood cancer a higher priority in society.
In order to create your own event, you first have to register in the login area with your last name, first name and email address. You then have to choose and confirm a password. In addition, the Conditions for Participation must be accepted. After you click on “Register now,” the so-called double opt-in process will be carried out, meaning an email will be sent to the address you specified. This is done to prevent abuse and to verify the correctness of your data. You can verify your registration by clicking on the link in the email. Once this has been actively confirmed, the registration process is complete. You can now log in to the microsite any time with your login data and create your own event or edit events that have already been created.
To create an event on the microsite, you have to give your event a name and add a description. You also have the option to upload a photo. After you have entered the address, date and time of the event, we only need the name of the initiator and a valid email address, so that anyone who is interested can contact you via the website if they have questions about your event. Your email address will not be made public. In addition, you have the option of linking an existing Facebook event with your own event, or indicating a website or phone number. Once you have accepted the Conditions for Participation, your event will be published on the microsite. Now, your event will appear on our World Map!
If you are not planning an event for WBCD, you can still express your solidarity using a photo. You can upload a photo of yourself to the microsite and add a red “&” sign, the symbol of World Blood Cancer Day. You don’t even need to log in. Just click on “Upload photo” and our upload form will pop up. You can of course position your photo as you like and enlarge, reduce or rotate it. A checkbox gives you the option of adding the red “&” sign to your photo, which can be scaled as you wish.
Please enter your name and also let us know where you live so we can add your photo to our WBCD World Map. You can also share your photo in your social networks, for example Facebook. Just use our Social Share button.
